The Mirror

2012 | c-print | 50 Ă— 50 cm | 9 photographs

What is typical for portrait photography is a relation between portrayed and a camera lens – a photographer’s eye, communicating with photographed person. I decided to intercept this relation and expose the person to its own reflection. As I used a semi-permable mirror, enabling to see what is happening behind it, photographer could see straight into eyes of portrayed person, but the person could see his own face only. This unusual way of photographing was intriguing experience for everybody involved. After a several minutes begun to happen a strange tension, uncommon to standard portraying. A mirror of our own image has appeared to be very strong visual percept, affecting psychological nature of a mien.
